Question by Julie S: What are some natural methods to cure a cold?
I find that alot of the regular bottled medicines make me too drowsy, even the none-drowsy ones.
What are some natural methods (like secret family recipes with herbs) that you use or know to help cure a cold?
Thanks.

Hmmm…when you have a cold its pretty much too late. But here are some great things to try that will prevent one:

-Echinacea
-Bee Proprolis (My Favourite)
-Vitamin C
-Garlic

I pretty much swear by these. I used to get colds all through the winter period now I get once a yr, around xmas of course. But that’s my fault with all the alocohol and junk food im guzzling.

Hope this helps!

Vitamin C … everyone should take vitamin C regularly to help prevent a cold. When you do get sick, it will be a quicker and easier recovery.

Be sure first which it is. Symptoms of a cold: stuffy and/or runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, coughing. Symptoms of the flu: cold symptoms, fatigue, headache, muscle aches, fever, chills.

Take Echinacea Extract recommended dose 300mg 3X a day or for whole herb supplements, take 1-2 grams 3X daily.Use only short-term while you’re sick 1-2 weeks as it can weaken immune system.
Wash up with regular soap instead of anti-bacterial because it is probably killing as many good bacteria as bad.

Buy only standardized heral extracts from trusted companies. Black tea, chicken soup, 1/2 to 3 fresh garlic cloves daily (not with blood thinner) crushed in foods it works like an antibotic, mix lemon juice/honey and water with a shot of bourbon in the evening before bedtime for ability to rest at night. Start drinking 100% Pomegranate juice, or eating fresh ones at the first sign of a cold to begin treating your sore throat, cough, and congestion.

Take 100mg of ginseng 2X daily 4 months before the winter cold and flu season begins to build immune system.

Keep a travel bottle of germ-x etc on you at all times to wipe off grocery carts and your hands after being in public places where germs congregate.

I have had chronic colds my entire life. When I have severe sinus congestion I use something called the “NetiPot” I won’t go into details, but it is a miracle for clearing up a “stopped-up” nose.
    http://www.webmd.com/allergies/sinus-pain-pressure-9/neti-pots

Surprisingly enough, laying out in the sun and relaxing helps. The sun’s rays are vital for the body to make vitamin D, which isimportant for the body to fight off the common cold. This happened to me this weekend– I got sick yesterday and then went on vacation to the desert, and now i feel totally refreshed!

Also, chicken soup doesn’t just make you feel good, it helps cure you as well. Chemicals in the broth clear a stuffy nose by reducing inflammation. Secondly, it temporarily speeds up the movement of mucus through the nose, helping relieve congestion and limiting the amount of time viruses are in contact with the nose lining

If it’s your throat that hurts, gargle with salt water. It kills bacteria and reduces an inflamed throat through the process of osmosis by draining moisture from the tissues.

Hope you feel better and I hope this helped!

  7. skeptical thinker says:

First of all, let me start by saying that you can’t “cure” a cold. Also, the people that tell you to take Vitamin C are obviously very gullible and uneducated. If you don’t have a vitamin deficiency, it will not help you to load up on them. Vitamins are not some kind of “super remedy” that everyone should just eat like candy. But those that recommend such remedies aren’t usually very concerned about being scientifically accurate, instead they rely on testimonials, etc.

About the only thing you can do is wash your hands often and refrain from touching your face, etc. Once you get a cold, there are things you can do to manage the symptoms while the cold runs its course.
